      <description>05/31/2008 08:00AMAnagarika Dharmapala had been dismayed to find the most holy site in Buddhism, the Mahabodhi temple, in Hindu hands and in a state of disrepair. The Mahabodhi Society was formed to restore the temple, and to get it back under the guardianship of Buddhists. He was only partially successful, and the temple administration is shared between Hindus and Buddhists.</description>
